Playitas Beach &#;A Small Beach Break for Intermediate Surfers in Manuel Antonio

Located on the northern tip of Manuel Antonio, Playitas is a small but semi-consistent beach break that offers some of the best surf in the area. While the main beach of Manuel Antonio to the north of the national park usually has little to offer for surfers, Playitas is a great spot for intermediate surfers looking for some quality waves.

Playitas offers both left and right breaks over a rocky bottom, which can be best surfed at mid to high tide when the swells are large. The beach is only a short walk from Manuel Antonio National Park and offers several peaks, including two peaks on either end of the beach and two peaks in between.

According to local surfers, the best time to surf Playitas is one hour before high tide and in the morning before 9 a.m., when the winds are still offshore. It is important to be cautious of the smaller rock boulders that jut out at lower tides in the middle of the break.

The wave can get crowded with locals who are good surfers, so it is best to arrive early. Beginners tend to surf farther south as there are 2 kilometers of open beach between Playitas and Manuel
