Gökotta är ett svensk tradition att ge sig ut på fågelskådartur och utomhusmåltid vid den tid vid våren samt morgonen då göken börjar gala. inom delar från Sverige besitter det varit vanligt för att fira gökotta, i synnerhet på Kristi himmelsfärdsdagen samt förr även trefaldighetsdagen samt dagarna före midsommar. Stora grupper människor kunde då ge sig ut vid promenad inom skogen alternativt i stadsparker tidigt, inom ottan, till samkväm samt kafferep, samt för för att lyssna vid vårfåglarna, främst göken.[1][2] Kristi himmelsfärdsdag infaller mellan 30 april samt 3 juni, vilket existerar nära gökdagen (ofta 25 april, ibland senare) då göken traditionellt anses ursprunglig börja gala.[3]
Kring år tog flera svenska folkrörelser upp gökotta tillsammans med brassmusikorkester inom sin programverksamhet och traditionen fick spridning i läka landet.[4][5] Kyrkor anordnar än idag gökotta på vissa orter, inom form från friluftsgudstjänst tillsammans skogspromenad vid Kristi himmelfärdsdagens morgon.[4][6]

The Gävle Goat (Swedish: Gävlebocken, pronounced[ˈjɛ̌ːvlɛbɔkːɛn]) is a traditional Christmas display erected annually at Slottstorget (Castle Square) in central Gävle, Sweden. The display is a giant version of a traditional Swedish Yule goat figure made of straw. It is erected each year by local community groups at the beginning of Advent over a period of two days.[1][2]
The Gävle Goat has been the subject of repeated arson attacks; despite security measures and a nearby fire station, the goat has been burned to the ground most years since its first appearance in As of January ,[update] 42 out of 59 goats have been destroyed or damaged in some way. Burning or destroying the goat is illegal, and the Svea Court of Appeal has stated that the offence should normally carry a 3-month prison sentence.[3]
Since , two separate Yule goats have been built in Gävle: the Gävle Goat by the Southern Merchants and the Yule Goat built by the Natural Science Club of the School of Vasa.

How to Practice Gökotta
We love words from other languages that can’t be easily translated. So far, we have written about four!
There’s hygge — the Danish concept of coziness. Then there is uitaaien — the Dutch belief that walking around on cold, windy days helps you relax. We wrote about friluftsliv — the Nordic practice of being outside in all weather, just living life. And finally, we covered niksen — the Dutch concept that actively doing nothing boosts health.
Today, we are covering gökotta — the Swedish practice of getting up early to listen to birdsong. Getting up early sets you up for a positive and productive day. And being immersed in nature first thing in the day can aid mental health.
It started with the religious practice of listening to the cuckoo sing for the first time of the spring on Ascension (the 40th day after Easter). It morphed into being just a part of the culture. It’s something we can all do to get a taste of Sweden, even here in the U.S.
